The government has moved to free Chattogram's Jangal Salimpur area from its reputation as a haven for criminals and bring it under proper governance, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said. A police academy modelled on the one at Sarda will be set up there, and 72 acres of land in Jangal Salimpur have been acquired to relocate Chattogram Central Jail.

The minister said government land, hill land and khas land in Jangal Salimpur will be brought under proper administration, and space has been allocated to different forces to ensure a permanent law-enforcement presence.

He spoke to reporters at the Secretariat around 3pm on Thursday (8 October) after a meeting on improving law and order in Jangal Salimpur.
